Dear Holy Trinity,

On Ash Wednesday, one week from today, I will be inviting you to experience a holy Lent. I will ask you to do this through “self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” This is a part of the Ash Wednesday service in our Book of Common Prayer where we all come together, kneel together, and offer ourselves as sinners, warts and all, to God.

This is a humbling moment in our church year and I hope that you have plans to be either at our noon or 6pm service. Ask a neighbor, bring a friend, tell your grocer – tell them that this is a service where you can come to the church and reverently offer your heart to God, acknowledging your sins and asking for forgiveness. Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.

This a moment facilitated by the church in that we plan a service and offer the worship space, but the Ash Wednesday service is really about you and God. It’s about your relationship with God, who loves you more than you can understand and forgives you for more than you can believe.

Yours in Christ,
