Mission in the Mountains – Denise PlacidoDuring this year’s vestry retreat, Dr. Bynum told us about a church he visited whose mission statement was “Making God’s love known”. This statement became an underlying theme as we discussed our plans and hopes for the upcoming year. Our goals are now based on striving to make God’s love known throughout Holy Trinity, the local community, our diocese, and the world. We have made God’s love known locally by the ecumenical services held during Easter, providing food for the Amen House, and sponsoring Scott County children for reading camp. We have made God’s love known in the world through our relief efforts for Haiti, led by Chuck Pittinger. Now, Holy Trinity is planning to make God’s love known in our diocese through a Mission to the Mountains June 17-20. We will be assisting St. James Episcopal Church, Prestonsburg with planting a community garden to support their food bank, and we will also be cleaning the food pantry and church facilities. Arriving on Thursday night, we will work during the day on Friday and Saturday, and conclude with Sunday services at St. James. There will be opportunities for recreation and socialization in the evenings. I promise you that this will be both a fun and rewarding trip! Everyone in the parish, including children, is invited to participate in this diocesan outreach effort in whatever way you can. You can go with us for the entire mission trip, or only on Friday or Saturday. Perhaps can you make a donation. Anything you can do will be accepted with gratitude! The fee per person is $150, which will cover food, lodging, and plants/supplies for the garden and food pantry at St. James. If you can only attend one or two days, the fee is $50 per day. Remember, financial assistance is available if needed! Lodging will be at the church where cots and shower facilities are available. Please RSVP to Stacy Morschhauser or Denise Placido no later that JUNE 7 so that we can finalize our plans for Mission in the Mountains. Join us as we make God’s love known! |
